Loving mother of Keith Kelly, Colleen (Stephen) Davila, Kristine (Paul) Morgan, Katheryn (Drew) Maddox, and Matthew Kelly; dear grandmother of Kristopher Poehl, Keanen Davila, Addison, Alana, and Cullen Curth, Mason and Devin Maddox, and Venice Kelly; dear great-grandmother of Lillie Poehl; dear sister of Patrick, Timothy (Margie), Thomas (Debbie) and the late Michael (Joyce) and Dennis (Karen) Flavin; dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend to many.
Kathy was born in St. Louis, MO to Martin and Frances Flavin, she was raised along with her five brothers, in St. Margaret of Scotland’s parish. She married James D. Kelly (Jim) in 1963 and raised five children.
Kathy wore many hats throughout her lifetime. First and foremost, she was a dedicated mother and especially loved her role as “Gramma Kelly”. She treasured every moment spent with family. Kathy was a trusted friend who recognized the true gift of friendship, evidenced by the close relationships she shared spanning 50 years or more. As a young woman Kathy held a few, “more notable titles” including “Queen” of the St. Louis A.C.C.Y. Chapter (‘61) and pediatric nurse’s aid/rehab aid (Cardinal Glennon Hospital). Later finding her passion as a floral designer and also a position in ticket operations for her beloved St. Louis Baseball Cardinals.
Kathy was a devout catholic, dedicated to the teachings of the church. Her faith was a source of both strength and comfort. She had a gentle nature and a remarkable ability to show grace where many would expect to see anger or fear. She was gentle, kind and generous with her time and compassion. She wholeheartedly believed the words of St. Therese, Lisieux when she wrote, “what matters in life is not great deeds, but great love.”
Kathy lived never fearing how things would get done instead she believed, through faith they could be done. She passed away peacefully, comforted by her faith, surrounded by her loving family.
