Daniel Lee Summers, dearest husband, father and PaPa passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020, at age 79.
Beloved husband of 52 years to Carole (nee Guerri); Loving father of Dayna Jo Anne Schroeder and Megan Leigh Guinn (Michael); Cherished PaPa to his two precious granddaughters, Olivia Evelyn and Alexa Ellen Guinn. Dear brother of Marian Caswell of Moody, Texas and Barbara Walton (Warren) of Benton, Illinois.
Daniel was born June 21, 1941 in Benton, Illinois to the late Denzil and Eileen Matilda Summers. Daniel was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon, Larry, and James Summers and his sisters, Betty Eubanks and Linda Brayfield.
He was proud to serve his country and shortly after high school graduation entered the United States Air Force where he served as an Inventory Management Specialist. He was honorably discharged on July 5, 1965 having earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Service Award. He continued to feed his passion for aircrafts by working at McDonnell Douglas as a Specialist in Contracts and Pricing on the F-15 program. Daniel was always a believer in the impossible and while working full-time, he attended and graduated from Saint Louis University with a Bachelor’s Degree continuing his career with Boeing Corporation as a Contract Administrator.
He loved to work on projects and enjoyed life most when he was spending time at the lake, boating, fishing, water-skiing and enjoying good times with friends. He also loved huge campfires and deer hunting with his deer camp buddies. He was a quiet man who had an immense amount of patience.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Daniel’s memory may make memorial donations to the Gary Sinise Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Services: Visitation at Kutis South County, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Tuesday, December 8, 2020, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Private service and interment at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery.
By reflecting upon our sweet memories with Daniel, we can even find Joy during our times of sorrow.
I am so sorry for you loss. He sounds like he was a wonderful man, and his legacy will live on forever in you, your children and the great work you do. He obviously raised you right, and while the body leaves, the spirit remains forever in all those he touched. My father’s soul lives on in my life and conduct to this day, and I’m sure yours will too.
Carol, I don’t have many memories of Daniel growing up other than the times you came
for visits around the holidays. He sounds like an amazing man. Apparently we have a few things in common like being quiet and working on projects.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
We are so sorry to hear about Dan. We will miss him at the lake. We will be thinking about you and your family.
Carole, we were so sorry to hear about Dan. We always loved seeing him at the lake, having him show us the latest project he was working on, and telling us stories about his latest fishing or hunting adventure. He will be greatly missed. Wishing you and your family peace during this incredibly difficult time.
So sorry to hear this Carole-I know Daniel was a wonderful husband, father and man.
Carole so sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. I will keep you and family in my prayers.
