Beloved husband of Judith Rethwisch (nee Engel); loving father of Carter Rethwisch and Christine (Patrick) Nigh; adoring grandfather of Elise and Clark Wagstaff, Margaret and Katherine Nigh; our dearest brother-in-law ,uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
Braxton was a dedicated leader and loyal employee at Central Methodist University for over 52 years. Contributions can be made to the Braxton P. Rethwisch Hall of Sponsors Scholarship at Central Methodist University.
Services: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois, Thursday, December 3, 4-8 p.m. then on Friday, December 4, at Our Savior Lutheran Church (1500 San Simeon Way, 63026) from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery.
What a difference Braxton made in the life of many. His love of life and his dedication to education was admirable, he will be missed. What fun to visit with him, loved his wit and knowledge. My condolences to Judy and family.

I am so sorry to hear of Braxton’s passing. Braxton was the consummate educator, and showed true leadership as a passionate advocate for students. He showed such great patience and care for what he did, and we will miss him. I think I speak for all of us at the National Association for College Admission Counseling when I say that he was a pioneer whose contributions to our profession cannot be adequately measured. My sincerest condolences to Braxton’s family. I hope his memory sustains you.
Judy, I was so sorry to read of Braxton’s passing. I didn’t know him as I have known you over the years, but I have vivid images of him beaming proudly as you were honored many times for your outstanding, influential work in our field. I know you’ve been at his side to celebrate his singular achievements, as well. What a partnership. Your loss must be overwhelming. Judy please accept my deepest sympathy. The world of college admission has lost a true professional. He taught me many things as I was a green counselor for a competing college. I remember fondly traveling with ‘Braxton as he showed me how to do Admission! Countless students, families, and CMU have benefited by knowing and working with Braxton. May you find comfort in your wonderful memories.
Both Debbie and I were shocked and greatly saddened to hear of the loss of Braxton. He was truly a great man and am proud to have considered him my friend. He certainly provided me the much needed strength and support during some of the roughest times in my life. We offer your family our deepest sympathy with the knowledge he now dwells with his Lord.

Braxton had such a presence. He was a gentleman and such a fun guy. I never knew him on a professional level, but I have heard many remarkable stories of things he has done for others. He made such a difference in the lives of many. As far as a family man, he was an excellent father. His kids and grand kids adore him. His gentle, caring and loving spirit was definitely present at all times. Our family will miss him dearly. We are so sorry for your family’s loss. Judy and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Braxton was one of a kind and he was the best! I have worked my entire career for Drury University and knew Braxton well from my many years within MOACAC. Wow, do I have fond memories of my friend. Traveling the back roads of Missouri, sock ball games in the parking lots of our various motels, to our many trips to Jeff City. He was the best and will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. It was always a great pleasure to be included in Braxton’s circle and I learned so much from him over the years.

Recently its been tough to hear of those who have left this world, and there were a few people who I remember will always have an impact on my life that left this world too soon.
Mr. Rethwisch was one of those amazing men that impacted my life at Central Methodist University. It was him that contacted me and my parents to make us feel absolutley comfortable with the possibility of being an Eagle. And because of him, his constant answers, and simply put-dedication, I chose CMC. He made a lasting impact on my life, one that I’ll be forever grateful for.

Braxton was my best friend and mentor through these many years that we worked together. His wisdom and advice impacted thousands of students, parents and people in the admissions profession. We have lost a true giant in the admissions profession.
