We take this time to celebrate the life of Rick – Richard John Thornton. Jesus reached down his hand and took Rick home November 16th, 2020.
Born in St. Louis City to Richard & Maxine Thornton. Rick served in the United States Army 1972 – 1975 and was in the 101st Airborne Division. He jumped out of perfectly good airplanes. He served out of Fort Campbell Kentucky and Schweinfurt Germany. Later he graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in hotel management & business administration.
Married to and survived by his wife Andi Thornton. Some family below has went to be with the Lord… Rick is survived by his son Trevor (Dawn & Ryker), his son Severin (Kaitlin, Nola & Ellie) and as he would say his son Cody (Jessica, Cameron & Aurora) and his son Zach. Also his adopted family Jamie, Jackie (JJ, Nellie & Joelie) his sister Elaine (Tod, Christy, Steven, Josh, Dalton & Rachel) his brother Mike (Aaron, Jessica, Chelsea & Zach) his family by marriage, Andrew & Sheri Morgan, Bud & Sheri Whitman, Richie (Derek, Misty, Will, Nate, Faith, Carrie and Cole) (Heather, Briella and Lynley), Aunt Laura and Mike (Dana & Kelly and family), Aunt Pam and Dan (Nathan, Tim and Shawn and family) cousins Robert and family and Michelle and family. And any other family that may have been missed.
Rick was larger than life in his joy and love for his family. Those that loved him knew that he always put family 1st. He was a devout Christian and took Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Rick was a wonderful father but when it came to his grandchildren, the sky was the limit to entertaining them, loving them and bringing them joy. He loved to golf, fish and do many cannonballs in the pool. He loved to celebrate 4th of July with his “Hammer time ” of fireworks. He loved Jesus and naps. He loved life and to make those around him happy. He was always watching a baseball or football game on his downtime. Every day, Rick will be missed by those who loved him. We have so much comfort knowing Jesus loved Rick so much to take him home.
Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. Monday November 23, at 10:30 am. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4-7 pm.
My condolences to you and your family. Rick often spoke about his wife and grandkids when we had down time at food shows. He will be greatly missed.

I am so sad for your Loss Andi and family.Rick was a great man and man of family first. I am so saddened I cannot attend his funeral as it would be an honor to be there. I am recouping from Covid and it would not be wise. I will not be in there in person , but I will be there in heat and soul. Prayers and thought for your family. Love Dan and Linda Douglas
Dearest Rick, just the mention of your name and my heart responds with the passion of love that only a mother can feel! He was loved and admired by many but “no one” can feel like I feel for my first born son Richard John Thornton! I rest in the knowledge that all of my family that goes before me will be joyfully greeting me when I go to be with the Lord! He waiting for me. Eternity is forever. Thank you Jesus my Savior!

Rick was beautiful and told us some funny stories of which I couldn’t repeat. I had the biggest crush on him.
I’ve been thinking about us and when we were young and Steve and Eddie and your baby I’m so sorry. We have totally different lives now but I’m crying I wish I could hold you and give you such a big hug. I was going to come tomorrow but my sister is not doing well and I can’t risk getting her sick. Poor little Michael I still look at him like a baby and he is an adult
You’re in my heart now try to stay strong I know it’s hard but all the love you had for him or you can spread it around there’s enough of you:)
