Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at age 75. She was surrounded by her family at the end. Karen was born on June 27, 1947 in St. Louis, MO and was the daughter of the late William F. and Louise A. Schepker (nee Groner).
Karen married Steve Sedor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in November 1974. They were married 48+ years. She is survived by her two children – Stephanie Sedor (Chris Eichelmann) and Tina (Michael) Kaemmerer and had four grandchildren: Kaven and Severin Eichelmann and Mia and Alaina Kaemmerer.
Karen was the loving sister of Lee Ann (John) Ward, Debra (Graig Eldred) Schepker-Eldred, and Steve (Terry) Schepker, as well as sister-in-law to John (Rita) Sedor. She was a dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend.
Karen was born in St. Louis and lived in North City, going to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and then graduating from St. Alphonsus “Rock” High School. She later moved to South City in St. Louis when she married Steve. She lived on Goethe Avenue with Steve and the girls before moving to Germany in 1985. They lived overseas for 7 years before coming back to Goethe.
Karen was a creature of habit. She had weekly trips to Savers, the boat, and her bookstore. She could always be found at the back table reading a book, with the TV on in the background. Later in life, playing Slotomania would occasionally replace the book. She loved her “shows” and hated to miss them. The Tour de France was watched religiously every July.
Karen was deeply loved and we will all miss her terribly, even her nagging.
Visitation at Kutis Affton Chapel 10151 Gravois Rd. 63123 on Sunday, April 23 from 4-8 pm. Funeral from Kutis Affton Chapel on Monday at 9:00 am. to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for 9:30 am. Karen and I were friends and classmates from “Rock” High School. Although we lost touch as the years went by there will always be a connection. John and I send our condolences to Steve and the family.
She jumped out of the basement shadows to scare me and my little brother silly when we were kids. When I was older, she brought home a tall, handsome boyfriend who seamlessly became a part of our family. My senior year, she drove me to school every day, never once getting me there late. For Christmas one year, she gave me a copy of my favorite movie “The Sound of Music”, then took me to the mountains in Austria where it was filmed the year I stayed with her family in Germany, licking my wounds after a painful divorce. She compared my home in northern Wisconsin to Siberia, yet made the trek multiple times when our mom lived with me and my husband during her final years. She was the glue in her family. She was my big sister.
Our condolences and prayers go out to the Sedor family. We knew them when they lived in Germany. Karen and Steve were great parents. Great kids, great Mom and Dad
Karen and I were classmates at Rock and later roommates for several years. Kind of lost touch for years but the ‘Rock’ connection was always there. Met up at several reunions and enjoyed visiting during them. Condolences to the family.
I was the older sister for Karen and Deb. Karen and I were 1-1/2 yrs apart. Shared a room growing up and apartment after high school. She was such a big part of my life and I can’t imagine how I will cope with losing her. My heart is broken.
Karen was my slightly older cousin and I have fond memories of her at family gatherings and then later “Schepker reunions”. She was ahead of me at Rock and when I got my first Civil service job with DoD (Army) on Goodfellow Blvd. right out of H/S, she picked me up at on her way to work. She had a great smile and sense of humor. I will miss her. Love to all of her family as they deal with her loss.
We were very sorry to learn of Karen’s passing. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
I wish to pass along my condolences to Steve & family in the passing of his wife Karen. May she rest in peace.
